The 2009 Under 12 Schools' Cup Final, which took place at Goodison Park on May 19, was won by Archbishop Beck College, Liverpool, who in a thrilling match beat Richard Challoner School New Malden 2-1. A team from the Archbishop Beck College will now go on to represent Team England at the Danone Nations Cup 2009 world final.

In light of recent developments in the pandemic influenza A H1N1, known as swine flu, Group Danone, the organiser of The Danone Nations Cup has decided to postpone the 2009 world final which was due to take place from the 7th to the 12th of October in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Please note The Danone Nations Cup 2009 final is only being postponed until 2010, it is not being cancelled. The tournament will take place after April next year, the year of the Football World Cup.

This very difficult decision was taken after careful consideration of global developments in the swine flu pandemic. Group Danone have been monitoring the evolution of the pandemic since it began and have followed advice and information given by the World Health Organisation and local health authorities. It is considered that a gathering over 5 days of more than 600 children and as many adults from 40 different countries presents a significant risk. Group Danone understand from recent developments that from the beginning of autumn several countries will be taking protective measures, such as quarantine on return from travelling, and this is not something they would like to risk happening to children entrusted to their care travelling home from the tournament in Brazil.

We understand the disappointment this decision has caused particularly for our team from Archbishop Beck College who have been looking forward to representing their country at the tournament in Brazil. However, we reassure you that the Final will take place in 2010 and that this Team England will get the chance to take part in the great sporting adventure that is The Danone Nations Cup.
